"Biofeedback is the technique of making unconscious or involuntary bodily processes (as heartbeats or brain waves) perceptible to the senses (as by the use of an oscilloscope or computer) in order to manipulate them by conscious mental control" (Webster Dictionary) "The use of instrumentation to mirror psychophysiological processes of which the individual is not normally aware and which may be brought under voluntary control" (George Fuller, Ph.D., 1977).
Blood flow biofeedback is a technique of a conscious control of blood flow.
Brain blood flow biofeedback could be useful in treatment in the following conditions:
Based upon the biofeedback studies, a human can learn to control the blood flow that can be beneficial for the following tasks:
The brain blood flow technique is based on non-invasive method of measuring bioimpedance. Changes in bioimpedance are generated by blood volume and blood flow and registered by a device. The pulsative bioimpedance changes directly reflect the total blood flow of the deep structures of brain due to high frequency impedance measurements. A picture below shows a sample of brain blood flow waveform (rCBF) and its relationship to cardio-interval (RR).
